Peter Obi Donates N5Million To Victims Of Flood In Benue State

AREWA AGENDA – The presidential candidate of Labour Party, (LP), Peter Obi has donated N5 million to victims of flood ravaging Benue State. He made the announcement on Thursday, during a visit to affected communities, to empathise with them.

Obi had earlier announced the suspension of his campaign to focus his attention on the raging floods while calling on his counterparts to do same. The former governor of Anambra state said everyone must work hard irrespective of political differences. “I stopped and told my people no more campaigns until we’re able to visit some of the sites and at least sympathise with victims,” he said.

His call comes amid cases of floods that have hit parts of Nigeria in the last two months. Some affected states are Kogi, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Benue, Ebonyi, Anambra, Kogi, Niger, Plateau and parts of the Federal Capital Territory

He said: “The flood is not an accident. It was meant to happen. It was something the federal government could have controlled but they failed to do something.”

“So I have come to identify with the victims in my own little way,” he said.

He later pledged to bring a permanent solution to the problem if elected president of the country.
