Fuel Scarcity:  Zamfara Residents Become Now  Vulnerable, Amid Bandits’ Onslaughts

Residents in Zamfara State, Nigeria, are facing a transportation crisis as fares skyrocket due to high fuel prices, according to a report by Daily Post.

Many residents are being forced to resort to trekking due to their inability to afford the increased costs.

One resident from Gusau reported that motorbike taxi rides, which previously cost N100, have now tripled to N300. Similarly, journeys between Gusau and Sokoto have seen a significant jump from N4,000 to N6,500.

Commercial drivers defend the fare hikes, citing the rising cost of fuel. They claim they would be operating at a loss if they didn’t raise their prices, as fuel prices have reached N950 to N1000 per litre.

Many filling stations are closed, and those that are open have limited supplies. A manager at a gas station reported that numerous fuel tankers are waiting for days at the NNPC Depot but are unable to collect fuel due to a lack of product.

The rising transportation costs have a ripple effect, impacting food prices in the market. With the cost of getting goods to market increasing, residents are likely to face further challenges affording basic necessities.
