Man in Police Net for Allegedly Smuggling Indian Hemp into Kano Correctional Center

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Hamisu Mamuda at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre for allegedly smuggling hard drugs into the center.

The 52 year old Mamuda was caught with 12 Nylon bags of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian hemp wrapped in his jacket in an attempt to smuggle it into Kurmawa Correctional Centre, according to the police report.

 

A statement issued by the police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa and made available to Grassroots Parrot on Monday said Mamuda took the consignment to the center with intent to sell it to inmates.

 

Kiyawa said the suspect had confessed to the crime and is “currently cooling his feet at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.”

 

The statement also confirmed the arrest of a 33-year-old Sadam Mu’azu popularly known as Badoo, a notorious drug dealer on the police wanted list.

 

Sadam was accused of receiving supply of illicit drugs and cannabis from Eastern parts of the country and distributing them to youths including house wives in Tukuntawa Quarters area of Kano Metropolis.

 

The statement noted that Saddam has been in the wanted list of the Command for long.

The Police in Kano State has arrested one Sadam Mu’azu, ‘m’, popularly known as “Badoo” aged 33 years of Tukuntawa Quarters in Kano Metropolis having received reports of public outcry by Tukuntawa Quarters Kano and adjoining communities on his activities of receiving supply of illicit drugs and cannabis especially from Eastern parts of the country and distributing them to youths including house wives. Saddam has been in the wanted list of the Command for long to curtail illicit drugs and related cases in Kano.

The success to which the arrest was made was as a result of painstaking surveillance and community partnership initiative of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc who instructed dedicated teams of detectives led by Officer in Charge of Anti Daba Unit of the Command, SP Hussaini Gimba in conjunction with DPO Sharada Division, CSP Bilyaminu Bello to ensure the arrest of the suspect with all his associates.

This dedication led to his arrest on the 22nd April, 2024, and eight (08) other members of his network. Exhibit recovered include Eleven (11) parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, a cutlass, five (5) motorcycles that are being used or sales and distribution facilities. The sum of one hundred and eleven thousand, and five hundred naira (N111,500:00) in different denominations suspected to be proceeds of crime was also recovered. Meanwhile, all the suspects made confessions on their dealings in buying and selling of the drugs and including Indian Hemp.

Similarly, on 27th April 2024, personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service attached to Kurmawa Correctional Centre arrested one Hamisu Mamuda, ‘m’, aged 52 years of Samegu Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State in possession of twelve (12) Nylon bags of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp wrapped in his jacket in an attempt to smuggle it into Kurmawa Correctional Centre with intent to sell it to inmates. The suspect also confessed to the crime and is currently cooling his feet at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.

At the completion of investigation all the suspects will be charged to court.

The Commissioner of Police appreciates the community partnership team-work for the successes recorded in the arrest and investigation of “Badoo” and his accomplices. He also commended the personnel of Kurmawa Correctional Centre for a job well done in ensuring the safety of the inmates.
