AA Zaura Did Not Evade Any Arrangement, Not Declared Wanted In Any Court – Barr Waru

AREWA AGENDA – Counsel to the APC Senatorial Candidate in Kano Central, Barrister Ibrahim Garba Waru had clarified the ongoing misquotes and misconceptions in the media that His client, the APC Senatorial Candidate, Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura – AA Zaura had evade trial and declared wanted by court.

Waru said, the case in question in the Kano Federal High court is even at preliminary level of arguing the jurisdiction as to weather it has the power to try AA Zaura or not on the matter. Waru said the case in question started in late 2019, in mid 2020, Zaura Secured victory in the Kano High court before justice Alagoa.

EFCC Appealed to Zaura’s High Court secured  victory in the Court of Appeal, earlier this year, the appellate Court in a Majority Judgement ruled that a federal High court should retry the case which Zaura won earlier, on the ground “that Zaura was not in court on the day the judgement was delivered’ even when reasons for inter-state travel ban was in place on the judgement day due to COVID-19, which stopped Zaura from coming to Kano from Abuja then.

Waru Stated that, they had since appealed with the Supreme court to review the Court of appeal’s Judgement on the retrial. They however were served with a process in the Federal High court, in Compliance, we participated and intimated the court that we are facing similar trial at the Supreme court hence, bringing jurisdictional Challenge in the High court.

So as we are, the case is still at preliminary stage, the said evader was not even arraigned to answer or reject charges, we will be in the High court on the 10th to submit our written Submissions on the issue. Waru

I wish to clarify that Zaura was not invited to any court nor was he searched for by any court or EFCC not to talk of being wanted or evading trial, hence, I call on Media Houses to verify and do more of investigative journalism in doing Thier job to avoid crossing over ethical and legal issues” Waru advises.
