World Teachers’ Day: Zakari Mohammed Salutes Teachers, Pledges Better Welfare
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Rt. Hon. Zakari Mohammed, has described teachers as critical nation-builders whose sacrifices and dedication remain central to the development of society.
Mohammed disclosed this in a statement on Monday, commemorating the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, in which he joined teachers, parents, students and other Nigerians in celebrating the contributions of teachers to education and national development.
The former lawmaker said teachers perform a role that extends beyond classroom instruction, noting that they nurture talents, build character, inspire young people and equip them with the knowledge and confidence required to become responsible citizens.
“As a son of a teacher, I understand firsthand the value of the teaching profession and the sacrifices teachers make every day,” he said.
According to him, teaching is not merely a profession but a noble calling and one of the most important investments any society can make in humanity.
He noted that behind every successful professional, accomplished leader, skilled artisan and responsible citizen was a teacher who contributed in one way or another to shaping such an individual’s journey.
The ADC candidate commended teachers for their patience, resilience, commitment and unwavering service, stressing that their responsibilities go far beyond the four walls of the classroom.

“Your work goes far beyond the classroom. You are nation-builders,” Mohammed said.
He, however, used the occasion to call for renewed commitment to improving the welfare and professional development of teachers, while providing conducive teaching and learning environments across the country.
Mohammed said teachers should be adequately supported, respected and recognised for their contributions to human capital development and nation-building.
He also highlighted the connection between his campaign and the teaching profession, noting that his running mate, Elder Julius Olaide Olaoye, is a product of the teaching profession.
“This gives me an even deeper appreciation of the important role teachers play in building a better Kwara,” he said.
Mohammed pledged that an ADC administration in Kwara State would regard teachers not merely as government employees, but as strategic partners in the task of building an educated, prosperous and progressive state.
He said his administration, if elected, would prioritise policies aimed at strengthening the education sector and creating conditions that would enable teachers to perform their responsibilities effectively.
The governorship candidate subsequently congratulated teachers across Kwara State and Nigeria, assuring them that their service, dedication and sacrifices remained valued.
“To every teacher in Kwara State and across Nigeria: We appreciate your service. We honour your dedication. We celebrate your contribution. We value your sacrifice,” he said.
He added: “Thank you for teaching. Thank you for inspiring. Thank you for shaping the future one child at a time.”
