Kaduna Health Workers Protest Against Three-Month Unpaid Salary Arrears As New Recruits Lament
Newly recruited workers under the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board (KSPHCB) have raised concerns over the non-payment of their salaries for January, February and March 2026, despite reporting to duty and working at various primary healthcare facilities across the state.
The affected workers said they received appointment letters dated December 22, 2025, and were posted to different primary healthcare facilities across Kaduna State, where they have continued to perform their assigned duties.
According to one of the affected workers who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity due to fears of possible repercussions at the workplace, salary payments only commenced in April 2026, leaving the workers with three months of unpaid salaries.
The worker said the affected staff were required to report to their respective places of assignment despite not receiving salaries during the first three months of their employment.
“Some of the newly recruited workers were posted to locations far from their homes. Because salaries were not paid during the first three months, some workers had to borrow money from relatives to cover transportation and other basic expenses while continuing to report to work,” the source said.
The source said the workers are now appealing to the Kaduna State Government and the KSPHCB to urgently investigate the situation and pay the outstanding January, February and March salaries.

The source also told SaharaReporters that documentary evidence, including an appointment letter and payment records, is available to support the claims.
A copy of the appointment letter seen by SaharaReporters was titled “Offer of Probationary Appointment” and was issued by the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board.
The letter offered the recipient a probationary appointment as a Health Information Management Technician at the Board on Salary Grade Level 07.
The appointment was stated to take effect from the date the recipient assumed duty.
The letter also stated that the appointee could be posted to any part of Kaduna State as long as they remained a staff member of the Board.
It further directed the recipient to submit a written acceptance of the appointment to the office of the Executive Secretary of the KSPHCB.
The letter was signed by the then Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Bello Yusuf Jamoh.
The affected workers said they had continued working despite the delay in receiving their salaries, with some reportedly relying on borrowed money to meet transportation and other basic expenses.
They are therefore calling on the Kaduna State Government and the KSPHCB to clarify why the salaries were withheld for the first three months and ensure that the outstanding arrears are paid.
SaharaReporters contacted Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Ahmad Mayaki, for his reaction to the allegations.
Mayaki did not answer repeated calls placed to his phone and had not responded to messages sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
