A 25-year-old man is in police custody following a harrowing domestic incident in which his mother chose the safety of the public over her own son’s criminal secrecy.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed on Wednesday that Ididiong James was arrested after allegedly assaulting his mother for discovering and withholding an illegal firearm he had hidden in his bag.

While the suspect initially fled the scene, his mother provided officers with the catalyst for the violence: an English Beretta pistol loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition.
The mother reportedly noted a drastic change in her son’s behavior following his return from New Year celebrations, which prompted her to search his belongings; where she discovered the weapon in his bag and refused to hand it over, leading to the violent attack.
The suspect was eventually tracked down and apprehended. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, lauded the mother’s bravery, citing her actions as a vital contribution to community safety. “The actions of this mother are commendable,” CP Bakori stated. “We appreciate her bravery in standing up against her son’s violent behavior. We also caution parents to monitor their children’s activities closely and report any suspicious behavior.”
The Command has urged Kano residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest station.
