Jigawa govt. to provide 270 boreholes in nomadic communities – Group

AREWA AGENDA – Alhaji Umar Dubantu, Chairman, Fulani Socio-Cultural Group, known as Kautal Hore, in Jigawa, says that the state government will drill 270 boreholes in various nomadic communities in the state.

Dubantu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse on Tuesday that the 10 boreholes would be drilled in 10 nomadic communities in each of the 27 local government areas of the state.

He said that the gesture would enhance access to potable water among nomads and their livestock.

“Nomads need water, just like every other human being, not only for their consumption and domestic use, but also for their animals.

“This will make the nomads feel that they belong to the government and are included in its provision of social amenities and other dividends of democracy.

“In fact, this is what is called inclusion method in governance, and we called on other governors to learn from Jigawa government,” he said.

The chairman added that providing social amenities to nomads and carrying them along would go a long way in promoting peace in the state and the country at large.

“This will also make them become peaceful, law abiding and not deviants,” he added.

According to him, governments at all levels should ensure that nomads have access to quality education, water, health and other social amenities.

“Governments at all level should include nomads in all their policies and programmes, just like they do to other Nigerians.

“It should not be that it is only when elections are around the corner that people will be looking for the Fulani,” Dubantu said.
