2023: INEC in an Evil Mission to Suppress Votes from Northern Nigeria

AREWA AGENDA – The leadership of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria has break the silence on Continuos Voter Registration whereby 45% of the newly PVC’s are considered to be invalid according to INEC Chairman declaration yesterday.

The President of the Council, Dr. Isah Abubakar and Hon. Mock Kure, Director General Media and Publicity were the signatory of the statement released calling the INEC Chair to resign and pave way for serious Nigerian to takeover for credible election in 2023.

Read the full statement below;

“It is no longer news that preparations towards 2023 general elections is in top gear in Nigeria following the signing of the Amended Electoral Act into Law by President Muhammadu Buhari and subsequent release of Election Timetable by the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

It is also a known fact that continuous voters registration is in top gear too, with INEC making shocking revelation that over 45% of the Newly completed registered PVCs will be invalid due to incomplete data captured by Staff of the Commission.

The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria believe that this is not an error but clear case of sabotage by members of a Commission that holds the key to our National Unity. Which must not go unpunished. If Professor Yakubu is worthy of Title, we expect him to tender his resignation in the days ahead as we will continue to cast doubt in every move that he makes, because he has betrayed that trust we once had in him.

Disturbingly, readers will recall that most States in Northwest and few others in North Central had reasons to shut down telecommunications Network to enable Military men carry out Operations to rid the regions of bandits. This hampered the ongoing registrations for several weeks, we have waited patiently for INEC to announce extension of registration in all LGAs affected as we are in the last quota of the Continuous Voters Registration, nothing of such has been done or said

To make the situation worst, the commission has stopped the ongoing registration in some Local Government Areas in Northern Nigeria under the guise of Security threat. Their is no Local Government that is envelop with security threat like their Borno and Yobe Counterpart, wherein the Commission went ahead and conducted elections in 2011, 2015, and 2019.

We don’t have doubt that the commission is not planning to postpone the 2023 general election, why then have they resolved to suspend registration in our region? Will the Local Governments they termed unsecured for registration be secured for 2023 elections?

The Northern Youths Council wish to therefore call on:

1) Northern Caucus of the National Assembly to initiate probing of the Commission to unravel any sinister motive against our region, since the Chairman of INEC has decided to present himself as unworthy of the North

2) On the INEC Management to quickly resign and pave way for serious minded Nigerians to take charge and conduct credible election

3) Where the Commission fails to give the affected Region level playing ground by compensating for the time loss during the Military Operation, we wish to admonish Mr President to consider setting up an Interim National Government until we get a fair treatment from the electoral umpire.

4) INEC to resort to Manual accreditation pending on when the affected over 1.3million potential voters will correct their details. It is no fault of theirs that INEC staff couldn’t capture, hence, they can’t pay for the sins of poorly trained INEC Officials.

5) All eligible voters to continue to present themselves for registration despite the satanic moves by INEC to deny them their right to vote in next leadership of the Country

Signed:
Dr. Isah Abubakar,
President, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN)

Hon Mock Kure
Director General, Media and Publicity, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN)
