FAWWASS To EFCC: Obey Court Order On Yahaya Bello, Stop Infringements on Rights of Nigerians

By Tayo Onimisi Omodaiye, Lokoja

The most formidable socio-political group in the North-Central, FairWin Women Advancement Association (FAWWASS) has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to act above the law in its efforts to arrest and prosecute a former Kogi governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello.

The group’s president, Hon. Bilikisu Onumoko stated this as thousands of women and youths from the 21 local government areas of the state who are supporters of the former Governor, stormed Lokoja to stage a peaceful protest against the EFCC onslaught.

The protesting groups carried various placards, expressing dissatisfaction at the action of the anti-graft agency.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, “We urge EFCC to abide by the rule of law”, “Yahaya Bello is not evading arrest. He’s not running away from anyone”, “Our funds are not missing, Kogi govt tells EFCC”, “EFCC be guided by the fear of God in your operations’, “Thank You President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Standing with Us”.

Hon. Bilikisu said Kogites and other Nigerians would want to know why the commission is trying so hard to find what is not missing, even after the Kogi state government insisted that its fund were not missing.

She revealed that EFCC has deployed some men to Kogi State, whose main assignment is to manufacture evidences the commission hopes to use to secure an indictment of Yahaya Bello

Hon. Bilikisu reiterated that former governor Yahaya Bello has over 100 verifiable legacy projects across the state and insisted that such person who has done so well for his people and state, should be allowed to enjoy his constitutional guaranteed fundamental rights after his terms in office, and not hounded based on assumptions.

She said, “the commission has forgotten so soon that in 2022, Kogi State won the World Bank’s Awards of Excellence in three categories- fiscal transparency and accountability; debt sustainability and domestic revenue mobilisation”.

Can anyone bribed the World Bank to do this? She queried the commission.

Hon. Bilikisu charged the EFCC to be guided by the fear of God and respect the court order restraining the EFCC from inviting, arresting or prosecuting former Governor Yahaya Bello over the subject matter of the charge against him.

She further call the EFCC to note that the development and progress in any society is largely a product of the quality of laws in that society.
