EFCC Forensics Laboratory, Best in Africa – Bawa

AREWA AGENDA – Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa has described the Forensics Laboratory of the Commission as the best in Sub-saharan Africa.

He stated this in Abuja on Wednesday, April 5,  2023, when members of the Cadet Course 72 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Cyber Security Department,  paid a Courtesy Visit to the Commission.

According to him, the EFCC, as an anti-graft agency, is sufficiently equipped for the task of fighting economic and financial crimes and its forensics laboratory is proof of this.

Bawa, who spoke through the Director of Public Affairs, Commander of the EFCC, CE Osita Nwajah, said “EFCC has the best forensic department in the whole of Africa. The work that we do here is encompassing, very technical and deep”.

He commended the Cadets and the team for visiting the Commission and promised that the EFCC will continue to work with the NDA in fighting economic and financial crimes in the country.

“We thank you very much for thinking us worthy of your time, we would give you as much as we have in this engagement and we hope it is not going to end here.   It is a learning and sharing experience.

We can learn from you and you can learn from us, what your experiences are in the field and we would use whatever we get from you to improve on our services”, he said.
Highlighting the role of the Forensics and Crime Laboratory Services Department of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE 11 Uzoma Geoffrey Okolorie, stated that the Department “provides a timely, scientific and professional investigation and prosecution of criminal cases to stakeholders. We also provide support to other agencies because of our laboratory capabilities, we do training, we support the military, Nigerian Police Force and other agencies.

Responding, Wing Commander Emmanuel Hamman Gadzama( retd) stated that “the essence of the visit is to complement what the Cadets learn in their classes so that they will know the realities on ground.

It is also in line with the National Universities Commission, NUC’s curriculum, the benchmark requirement for the award of Bachelor of Science Degree in Cyber Security”.
