After PRNigeria’s Investigation, Foundation Donates Kidney Transplant Equipments to Kano Hospital
AREWA AGENDA – Kidney Transplant Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) has donated kidney transplant equipments to Mohammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist hospital in Kano.
A recent PRNigeria’s Investigation revealed how lives of many kidney patients in Kano depended on only 12 dialysis machines at the two major public health facilities, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital
At Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, there are on average 160 patients every week with kidney-related diseases that come to the clinic, and in every week, there are at least 15 new patients that come for dialysis.
While at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital there are up to 70 patients every week on the roster of maintaining dialysis patients. But in a week at least 40 dialysis treatments or more are being done and some will be waiting.
Despite the cost of dialysis treatment, some of the Dialysis machines are not functioning.

Speaking at the presentation of the equipment to the hospital, the Chairman of the Kidney Transplant Foundation, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of kidney patients.
He further explained that they chose to support Mohammad Abdullahi Wase Specialists Hospital with the donation due to the efforts of the hospital in reducing cost of treatment for kidney patients.
“We’ve spent over five hundred thousand naira in procuring kidney transplant equipment, I urge other associations and wealthy individuals to emulate this gesture.”
In her remark, the former minister of education, Professor Ruqayya Ahmad Rufai who is a member of the Foundation appealed to the Kano State Government to expedite action in addressing the challenges the hospital is facing.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital represented by Dr Bashir Garba Ahmad lauded the foresight and commitment of the foundation in alleviating the plight of kidney patients.
He added that the hospital was facing numerous challenges, especially kidney transplant equipment which needed urgent intervention from the government and other stakeholders.
