IPC Trains Journalists on Safety, Digital Security in Kano

AREWA AGENDA – The International Press Centre (IPC), has concluded a two-day capacity building training for selected Journalists on Safety and Digital Security in Kano.

The training which was designed to improve the overall safety, digital security as well as personal management of Journalists during emergency was held at Chilla Suites Hotel in the state.

In attendance were journalists from print, online, and broadcast stations in the state.

Flagging off the training, the IPC Executive Director, Mr. Lanre Arongundade said the training is a necessity because of the rising spate of threats to press freedom, safety, and security in the country.

Lanre noted that the workshop is geared towards enhancing the capacity of media professionals on safety and security measures, especially during investigative reporting, coverage of dangerous, assignments and conflicts reportage.

While speaking, the Head, Department of Information and Media Studies, Bayero University Kano, Dr. Nura Ibrahim said Data and Digital Security Related Issues in Investigative Reporting and Coverage of Dangerous Assignments are necessities to journalists in order to keep them abreast with various laws and statutory provisions, adding that it would help in avoiding pitfalls in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He reiterated the need for journalists carrying out dangerous assignments to keep personal details and images off social media while developing effective digital security.
