AREWA AGENDA – African Focus for Youth Development (AFFYD) in conjunction with Building Strong Foundation Working Group (BSFWG) on Wednesday and Thursday this week held a 2-day sensitization workshop on human rights and value creation in Kano state.

The workshop which had its theme as “Human Rights Awareness Creation and Value Clarifications and Attitude Transformation (VCAT” had participants from the 41 local government areas of the state.

While speaking, the AFFYD Executive Director, Ambassador Emmanuel Gambari noted that organizing the workshop has become imperatively important due to the umpteenth violations of the citizens’ human rights violation.

He specially made reference to several police brutalities and violations of Nigerians’ fundamental rights, the factor he said contributed to the 2020 ENDSARS mass protest across the country.

During the workshop’s day-1 activities, there was an interlude of drama to portray how citizens’ rights have been severally abused by the men of the police force.

Gambari enjoined the participants that it is important to know their rights, adding that they cannot defend themselves if they lack the knowledge of their fundamental human rights.

He also lamented the lacklustre attitudes of most Nigerian youth towards electoral process.

He questioned that how can the electorates hold leaders to account if they don’t possess voters cards not to talk of exercising their voting rights during the election.

He finally charged the youth to shun political apartheid and always sensitize others to partake actively in the electoral process.
