Niger Local Vigilante Allegedly Kills Okada Rider, Steals Away His Bike

A local vigilante operative in Mokwa, identified as Usman Yahaya Kinbokun has allegedly slaughtered an unidentified motorcyclist, popularly known as Okada rider in Niger State.

The tragic incident occurred on last Saturday, along by-pass, Eppa road in Mokwa town.

According to a source who craved anonymity, the deceased bike was also taken away by his alleged assailant.

The source also confided that the suspected killer murdered the motorcyclist near Bypass Eppa road.

“Usman was alleged to have killed a motorcyclist near Bypass Eppa road three days ago.

“Angry mobs were calling for his head earlier on and he was taken from Mokwa police station to Minna. The deceased was buried where I worked”, he confided.

He further stated that the suspect has a few days for his wedding ceremony, stressing that he has 11 days to his wedding.

“The guy in question has even proposed a marriage to be tied in the coming days. Just 11 days left. His pre-wedding pictures are everywhere on social media na”, he said.

Another source who spoke to Arewa Agenda said that the suspect confessed that he had killed seven persons including the deceased man.

He said, “while confessing, Usman said that he had killed seven persons including the man killed on Saturday.

“I was at home when I was told that a lifeless body was found around our area”, adding that the deceased may know him and that was why he slaughtered him.

He said that many alleged that the suspect’s phone was found in the area where the deceased died.

The ex-motorcyclists chairman in Mokwa, Musa Ndako said that the suspect who is alleged to have killed the okada rider took the bike of the deceased away.

“The Okada man was slaughtered and his bike was taken away when he was killed”, he said, adding that somebody saw him when the Okada man took him.

“In the morning, we heard that a man was murdered along Eppa road. And at the same time, the people saw the suspect with a bike claiming that he bought a bike”, he further added.

Ndako stressed that many claimed that the suspect was phoned and was threatened that he would come to Mokwa. Kinbokun feared that his secret was exposed.

According to him, the suspect went to the vigilante’s phone to buy a bike. Some among his colleagues even rode the bike.

“Vigilante men sensed that it was a stolen bike. His sister was asked but she said that it was what he told them too”, Ndako narrated. The Vigilante chairman invited him to come and was interrogated. The bike you claimed to buy, we received a call now that it is a stolen bike but he argued that he bought the bike.

However, his chairman told him that he would cover his crime if he revealed the truth. The suspect would start confessing and was later handed over to the police.

Mohammed Abdullahi, social welfare officer for Mokwa local council confirmed the incident to this reporter, saying that the suspect confessed to the crime.

” It is true that the boy happens to kill the Okada rider. So later, he confessed that he was the one that killed him”, he said.

“We found the corpse early in the morning yesterday around 8:30 am along the By-pass Eppa road”, he said.

Abdullahi said that his team buried the deceased where he was killed, adding that the suspect was interrogated and confessed to committing the crime.

“He was interrogated that he killed the boy and took his bile away.

Mokwa Vigilante Chairman, Yahaya Hassan didn’t want to reveal details of the incident to this reporter when contacted.

“We can’t talk over the phone. You need to come down to Mokwa”, he said.

The Police spokesman in the state, Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident to this reporter, saying a lifeless body was found in a pool of body.

“On 01/10/22023 at about 0830hrs, information was received that a lifeless body with a slit throat was found in a pool of blood at the Shabalile area, Mokwa “, his statement reads.

He said that Police operatives led by DPO Mokwa Division mobilized to the scene and evacuated the corpse to the hospital morgue.

“However, in furtherance to the investigation of the suspected homicide, on 02/10/2023 at about 1130hrs, a bajaj motorcycle suspected to have been robbed from the deceased was recovered from an uncompleted building in Mokwa, while further findings led to the arrest of one Usman Yahaya of Epa road Mokwa”.

“During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and said he killed the deceased with a cutlass and took his motorcycle away”, he added.

He further stated the case is under investigation, and the suspect will be transferred to SCID for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
