Tinubu’s Aide, Masari Awards Scholarships to Over 300 Katsina Medical Students
Hon. Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, has awarded scholarships to more than 300 indigenes of Katsina State studying medicine and other health-related courses in universities across Nigeria.
The beneficiaries received the scholarships at a presentation ceremony held at the Mahmud Tukur Theatre, Old Campus, Bayero University, Kano, as part of efforts to ease the financial burden on students and support access to higher education.
At the event, selected beneficiaries received ₦500,000 each, while all students present at the venue were given ₦100,000 each.
Masari, who explained that the initiative was inspired by the plight of a young girl who lost her father and faced financial difficulties that threatened her education, said the experience motivated him to extend assistance to other students in similar circumstances.
He said the intervention was driven by his desire to support vulnerable individuals and help students overcome financial challenges that could disrupt their academic pursuits.
Drawing inspiration from the Holy Qur’an, Masari emphasised the importance of helping people in need and urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies, become productive members of society and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He also disclosed plans to expand the scholarship scheme in the next academic session to cover students studying other disciplines, extending the initiative to more Katsina State indigenes across different fields.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqa Rabe Darma, commended Masari for his philanthropic activities, describing him as a God-given individual to the people of Katsina State and Nigeria.

Darma said the initiative would help disadvantaged students overcome financial barriers and pursue their educational ambitions, while calling on other well-meaning Nigerians to support programmes that promote education and human development.
Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Ahmad Muhammad Tsauni, praised Masari for the intervention.
Tsauni described the scholarship scheme as timely, noting that financial assistance from philanthropists and other stakeholders could help students concentrate on their studies and complete their education without undue financial pressure.
He stressed the need for stronger partnerships among universities, philanthropists and other stakeholders to ensure that financial difficulties do not prevent capable students from pursuing higher education, particularly in critical fields such as medicine and other health-related disciplines.
According to him, such interventions complement government and institutional efforts to expand access to education, strengthen human capital development and prepare young people for meaningful contributions to society.
Some beneficiaries reportedly broke down in tears of joy as they expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the financial support as significant relief for themselves and their families.
They prayed for Masari and expressed hope that they would one day attain positions that would enable them to extend similar assistance to other people in need.
The scholarship scheme is expected to ease the financial burden on beneficiaries and their families while supporting the training of skilled professionals for Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
Masari’s planned expansion of the initiative to other academic disciplines in the next session is also expected to extend educational support to more students from Katsina State.
