The secret convictions in conventional party politics of Nigeria, By Salisu Mubarak Muhammad

AREWA AGENDA – In 2023 presidential election, Nigerians are enthusiastically divided based on their personal convictions. In a more a crowning metaphysical presentation of convictions, especially that revolving around human decision-making characterized by the deeply invested culture of convention, which Nietzsche considers to be “more dangerous enemies of truth than lies”.

The unfortunate art of secret convictions interpreted in this context as ethno-religious chauvinism that affected the complex nature of human psychology expresses dogma in harmonic inner significance over others.

Equally, the nature and theory of secrecy are within the context of boundless curiosity to possess certain knowledge. It is critically important the idea that secrecy may harm the secret-keeper over time is no doubt associated with an organized culture of openness in both Platonic and Augustan thoughts.

The development of secrecy therefore, is possibly intensified in the context of party politics in Nigeria. The politics of secret convictions should not come at the expense of perceived elements that promote access to basic unity of the entire country.

To develop perspectives on the issues raised, the inner convictions tend to cloud many peoples’ sense of judgment in Nigeria to fully comprehend the basic structures of conventional party politics.

In the recently concluded elections, Nigerians proved to be living inside a world of mind, but certainly, not in the Trotskyan sense. It is really difficult to circumvent the fact that southerners, like many in the north, do not resist a clear identification with ethno-religious politics as it existed during the election exercise.

Even envy and jealousy play too large a part. In a conventional tradition, elections however, represent the genuine expression of the sovereign will of the people, especially in a plural society to which Nigeria is no exception. Complexity of representation in a tricky business of Nigeria determines the rigid hierarchy of power and roles of an individual to a state.

Mostly, in the system that people consider their own, such religious phenomenon must be regulated to a minimum level. It is true that secrets are meant to be kept in many traditions, but most evil and addictive practices hide in the shadows of secrecy. It is also apparent that the Nigerian election is an undisputed reflection of a divided society along religious and ethnic divides that symbolize non-existent elements of tolerance and peace.

The president elect though appearing feeble and somehow senile has a major task of cleaning the mess, reuniting the country to transcend such huge a division.
