Red Star Express CEO, Auwalu Babura, Conferred with CIoD Fellowship for Leadership Excellence
The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Red Star Express Plc, Auwalu Badamasi Babura, has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria in recognition of his professional accomplishments and contributions to corporate leadership.
Babura, who heads one of Nigeria’s leading logistics and courier companies, was among prominent business executives and professionals inducted into the institute’s Fellowship at a ceremony in Lagos.
Speaking at the induction, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIoD Nigeria, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, urged the new Fellows to uphold integrity, professionalism and responsible leadership in their organisations.
Addressing the theme, “The Trust Economy: Why Reputation Has Become Everyone’s Greatest Asset,” Oyebanji emphasised that financial capital alone was no longer sufficient to guarantee institutional sustainability.
He stressed the importance of corporate reputation, ethical conduct and stakeholder confidence in building resilient businesses and sustainable institutions.
Oyebanji encouraged the inductees to deploy their professional experience and the knowledge acquired through their association with CIoD to strengthen corporate governance and contribute meaningfully to their professions and society.
Babura’s induction marks another milestone in a corporate career spanning more than three decades, largely within Red Star Express Plc, a company listed on the Nigerian Exchange and a licensee of global logistics giant FedEx Corporation.
He joined Red Star Express in 1994 and rose through successive management positions in finance, internal control, credit management and administration.
His previous appointments include Group Executive Director, Finance and Administration; Group Head, Internal Control; Group Accountant; Group Treasurer; Management Accountant; and Credit Controller.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Babura holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Bayero University, Kano, and a Master of Business Administration from Lagos State University. He also obtained a Mini MBA from the London School of Business and Finance.
He is an alumnus of Lagos Business School and the London School of Economics, with extensive professional experience in finance, logistics, corporate administration and governance.
Beyond Red Star Express, Babura has served as a Council Member of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). He is also associated with several enterprises, including Koguna Babura Insurance Brokers Limited, e-Insurance Solutions Centre Limited, e-Training Institute and e-Island Solutions Limited.
Economic Confidential reports that his Fellowship comes amid continued business expansion at Red Star Express.
At the company’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, chaired by Suleiman Barau, the logistics firm reported an 8.5 per cent increase in group revenue to N23.49 billion for the financial year ended March 31, 2026.
Profit before tax also rose by 16.2 per cent to N1.07 billion.
Babura attributed the performance to business expansion, technology adoption, disciplined cost management and efforts to strengthen the company’s nationwide partnerships and distribution network.
He said the company would continue investing in operational efficiency and technology to expand its reach and improve service delivery across Nigeria.
Babura and the other newly inducted Fellows pledged to promote good corporate governance, ethical leadership and responsible directorship in the organisations and institutions they serve.
The CIoD Fellowship is a professional distinction conferred on experienced directors and corporate leaders who have demonstrated commitment to governance, leadership and professional development.
