NGOs Fix Damaged Water Pumps Servicing 650 Households in Kano
AREWA AGENDA – A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), The Water Mechanics Initiative (TWMI), together with the support of Charity and Vulnerable Support Initiative (CVSI), has began repairing damaged water pumps at some communities in Kano State.
The gesture is part of the NGOs’ efforts towards ensuring the provision of portable drinking water to remote areas in the State.
The State Coordinator of TWMI, Rukayyah Nabage, disclosed this in a statement forwarded to the Chief Executive Officer of CVSI, Aminu Lawal.
Nabage, stated that they were able to identify the communities with dilapidated water pumps after a thorough survey conducted by their technical team.
She said; “We are pleased to inform you that after a lot of hard work and diligence, The H2O Mechanics Initiative has successfully identified and embarked on the repairs of 7 hand pumps in Kano State.
“The pumps were identified through a survey of non-functional pumps in rural communities outside Kano city. These pumps are located in Chinkoso, Kanwa, and Rikadawa communities of Madobi LGA.

“Others are in Chiromawa and Fankurum communities of Garun Mallam LGA. Also in the list are; Dukawa, and Dukau communities of Kura LGA. These pumps collectively service more than 4,500 individuals and more than 650 households”.
According to Nabage, the work in Kano is being implemented with support from their implementing partner, CVSI.
She added that, CVSI has over the years partnered with them on implementation of other projects and also received several commendations from the governments of Kano and Jigawa States, respectively.
“CVSI has been invaluable in the support they have offered in our work in Kano State.
“It was with the aid of Mr. Aminu Lawan, Mr. Mustapha Badamasi and Engr. Illiyasu of the initiative, that we have been able to identify the defunct pumps, conduct feasibility studies on them, purchase the parts required for repairs and are now currently conducting repairs.
“As a further gesture of goodwill, CVSI has undertaken the repair of one additional pump.
“In the coming weeks, we expect to be done with the repairs in Kano State and go on to Sokoto and Bauchi States Insha Allah,” Nabage added.
