Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Lalong will not resign – PSC

AREWA AGENDA – The Presidential Support Council of the All Progressive Congress (APC) says the Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong will not resign his appointment as the Director General of Tinubu/Shettima campaign organisation.

National coordinator of the Presidential Support Council, Dr Kassim Muhammad who was a former Member Nasarawa State House of Assembly stated this yesterday in Lafia during an interactive session with Journalists.

He said that the Presidential Support Council has over 300 registered known members, adding that Governor Simon Lalong has no reason to resign his appointment because he did not violate any known law having supported a Christian presidential aspirant during the primaries.

Dr Kassim was reacting to calls by some Christians in the northern part of the country urging Simon Lalong to resign his appointment as DG of the Presidential campaign team.

“Governor Lalong will not resign because he is a better Christian politician than other partisan Christian Politicians and shall enjoy the support of more than 300 Known youth groups in this Campaign” he said

Dr Kassim maintained that from day one, the former SGF Babachir Lawal and the former Speaker of the house of representatives Hon Yakubu Dogara did not support a Christian to led the country which implies that by their actions, they have already relegated the Christians to second class citizens.

“We have an outgoing president who is a muslim, that is why some of us supported that power should shift to the south and being a muslim myself, I personally supported Rotimi Ameachi to emerged the presidential candidate but it was an election and Tinubu won

“Babachir Lawal and Yakubu Dogara heavily supported Tinubu at the primaries, Akpabio and Fayemi who are Christians step down their presidential ambitions for Tinubu who is Muslims to emerge even when there was a Christian aspirant in the race, and if their actions were on the ground that Tinubu was more qualified, them Simon Lalong has not done anything wrong in accepting to be the DG of the campaign

He said that as far as he is concern, Governor Simon Lalong mean well for the Christians in the country having supported a Christian in the person of Rotimi Ameachi during the presidential primaries.

He said that Simon Lalong has not violated any known law in the country to warrant his resignation as Director General of the Tinubu Shettima presidential campaign team, because as a party man, he is expected to campaign for his party.

“Simon Lalong supported a Christian, it was an election and Tinubu who is a muslim won, if the likes of Babachir Lawal, Yakubu Dogara, Godswill Akpabio, Governor Fayemi and a host of other Christians had supported a southern Christian, all this issues would not have arise

“What actually happen at eggle square was an election and Tinubu won, it was a free and fair election and majority of those who voted for Tinubu during the presidential primaries are Christians and it make no sense for any right thinking christians to call Lalong to resign as the DG of the Presidential candidate.

“Senator Godswill Akpabio is a Christian, he was the first to step down for Tinubu, Governor Fayemi of Ekiti is a Christian, he was the 2nd person to step down for Tinubu, these are committed christians.

“Majority of the votes garnered by Ameachi were from the muslims which clearly shows that they were committed to a southern presidency through a Christian but because it was an election, Tinubu won and the process was not manipulated.

“We have muslims in the South West but all the Governor’s in the zone are Christians except Osun Governor who recently lost to a Christian, but no muslim protested” he said

“There are muslims in the South south, and South East but none of this state has ever made a muslim a deputy Governor as all their Governor’s nd deputy Governor’s are Christians, we have much muslims in Edo but the Governor and his Deputy are all christians , yet no muslims protested

“If you come to the north, there is a Christian Deputy Governor in Gombe and Adamawa States, Yakubu Dogara himself went to the house of representatives for about 4 times now in a muslim dominated state, there was a time Kaduna even had a Christian Governor, yet nobody raise eyebrow”

He said that Babachir Lawal and Yakubu Dogara should not introduced religion politics in the country just because they lost out in their attempt to be the vice presidential candidate.
