Kano VVF Center, Children Rehabilitation Home Gets YOSPIS Relief Intervention

AREWA AGENDA – The Kano Vesico Virginal Fistula (VVF) Centre in Kwalli Kano Municipal and the Torrey Home for the mentally challenged and handicapped Tudun Maliki, have received various relief interventions from the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS).

While the VVF Center received 15 mattresses, the Torrey Home received pharmaceutical medication which includes; Keppra, Epilim, Carbamazepine and Phenobarbitone among others.

While presenting the relief packages YOSPIS Executive Director, Zainab Nasir Ahmad said the organisation realised the need to support these homes as the government cannot do it alone.

“It is a good gesture to help in changing the lives of the VVF victims, handicapped and mentally impaired children. All thanks to YOSPIS existing partners and donors for the support,” Ms Ahmad who called on philanthropists to donate to these types of homes said.

Also expressing delight, the Head of Tudun Maliki Torrey home, Hajiya Maimuna Hamisu said the support couldn’t have come at a better time than now when the center is facing challenges due to inadequate drugs.

“These drugs are too expensive and having enough has been a bit of a challenge for us. We call for more interventions from other individuals, and organizations as government cannot do it alone. We need more relief materials like this including sanitary items and clothes,” she said.

On her part, the officer in charge of VVF Kwali, Hajiya Hauwa Bello Umar said before now, inadequate mattresses have remained a core part of the challenge the center is facing especially during the winter season.

“This support from YOSPIS and AMGF is one of the best interventions at the center so far.”

While speaking on the support, the Director of Operations, AMG Foundation, Mallam Sulaiman Jalo recalled that the centres were marked for intervention when in in September during the occasion of YOSPIS 25th Anniversary where AMG Foundation donated food items to the centres.

“We noticed the many health challenges facing the occupants of these centres; inadequate and damaged matress at the VVF and lack of drugs at the Torrey home among others. These challenges prompted YOSPIS and AMG Foundation to partner and come to the aid of these people. Today as you can see, AMG Foundation supported the donation of the 15 matresses to VVF centre, Kwalli and drugs to Tudun Maliki Torrey home,” he enthused.
