Kano Govt Receives Donation of Medical Consumables Worth N15Million

AREWA AGENDA – The Kano State Government on Thursday received the donation of Medical Consumables from Friends of Kano State Health Sector within and diaspora headed by Dr Aminu Magashi Garba.

The donation was received by the Kano State Governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf through his Principal Private Secretary Dr Faruk Kurawa at the Premises of the Kano State Drugs and Consumables Management Agency (DCMA).

While receiving the donations, Kurawa appreciate the efforts of patriotic indigenes of the state for providing such support when the state is in dire need of it.

He said “We are pleased with this support and intervention, this clearly demonstrates the fact we still have good Samaritans who are Kano indigenes practicing their businesses outside the country but they are still very keen on coming to support what is happening currently in Nigeria.

“So we are very happy with this good gesture and we appreciate what they are doing, while looking forward for them to at some point come back to contribute physically to the development of the state and contribute their quota in other ways.”

While talking about how the state will use these donations judiciously, Kurawa said; “anything that belongs to the public should be guarded and be used judiciously because some people invested a lot of money to produce. In this case, we are talking about money in the excess of N15 million that an individual put together to support the government of the state and equipment to be used for the people of Kano State.”

He later called on the practitioners to utilise them judiciously and also strictly guard against the misuse of the equipment.

From his part Dr Aminu Magashi Garba who served as the head of a transition Healthcare Sub Committee of the newly sworn-in Governor of the state explained that after 2 months of non-stop work by his committee to develop a recommendation and report for the Kano State Government “we felt that we shouldn’t walk away, to this are expert all over the country that formed the committee, so based on that I created the friends of the healthcare sector with the people that worked with me in that transition committee and also my friends in the diaspora and Abuja.”

Magashi further said “We felt that we need to support His Excellency’s vision and blueprint to revamp the Health Sector and you’re aware we are in the rainy season, malaria is very high, the issue of cholera, gastroenteritis, a lot of childhood illnesses. We felt that providing medical consumables would be key to addressing these issues of rainy season challenges and this is just the beginning.”

He later vowed that apart from the medical consumables by Monday friends of the healthcare sector in Kano are coming back to the DCMA to put another One Million Naira to provide drugs for pregnant women so that these consumables and the drugs would be distributed across the 40 secondary centres in Kano State.
