FEC approves N3.197bn taxiway lights, others for 3 airports
AREWA AGENDA – The Federal Government has approved N3.2 billion for the procurement and installation of taxiway lights and Photometric Pattern in three airports and some other equipment all over the country.
This is as the minister of aviation also insisted that Nigeria Air will commence operation before handing over power in May 29, 2023.
Hadi Sirika the aviation minister told State House Correspondents after the Extraordinary Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Sirika explained that the equipment would be installed in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja airports.
“So today in council, something very significant has happened in the world of civil aviation. Part of our roadmap, the aviation leasing company has been established and approved by council.
“A second memo was also a contract for procurement, an installation of taxiway lights in the system and photometric pattern in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja and some other equipment all over the country.
“And this contract is in the total sum for the photometric and taxiway lights system N3.2 billion with an eight month period and the contractor Mersers KSR3 Global Ledger Limited,” the minister said.

Showing the approval, the minister said, enterpreneurs in civil aviation will have access to these equipment at affordable rates in Nigeria, and this is part of the roadmap, adding that, the roadmap is gradually coming to 100% completion.
Regarding Nigeria Air, the minister further explained that “yes, we are on course, we’re on course, and by the grace of God before President Buhari leaves office, it will fly. We are on course, we are on course and before May 29, it will fly.”
Suleiman Adamu the water resources minister disclosed that FEC approved appointment of a consultant to supervise the concession of the Dandikowa 40 megawatts hydropower project for the first five years.
The project, located in Gombe State, was completed last year and is already injecting power into the national grid, it is in Dandikowa in Gombe State.
According to the minister, “Part of the agreement for the concession is that an independent consultant be appointed to supervise the operations and things related to the income generation and other things by the concessionaire.
“It is for the first five years renewable every five years for a total of 25 years.
He disclosed that the project was approved at N605 million for the first five years and then subsequently based on performance of the consultant, it can be renewed.
“The consultant named Messes Pienet. So the memo was presented on behalf of Development authority”
The Council also approved contract to regularise ongoing lease arrangement with a concessionaire under the auspices of the upper Niger River Basin Development Authority.
