Border Security: NIS pledges support for police in Kwara

AREWA AGENDA– The comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Kwara, Aminu Shamsuddin, has promised his command’s continued support to the Nigeria Police Force on border security.

The comptroller made the promise when the newly-deployed Commissioner of Police in Kwara, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, paid him a courtesy visit at NIS headquarters in Ilorin on Friday.

Mr Shamsuddin said there had always been a synergy between the police and Immigration for years.

“But we will continue to give the Force all our support and the information needed in order to do their work diligently and have less crime in the state and the nation at large,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police solicited continuous collaboration with the NIS, especially at the state’s border areas.

Ms Adelesi said the NIS and police have common goals and many things in common, like preventing cross-border crime within the state.

“We do our part by getting the necessary information through interrogation of victims as well as investigate other people involved and confirm their nationalities from Immigration,” she said.

The commissioner noted that Kwara shares a boundary with the Republic of Benin, which links it to neighbouring countries.

“So, there is the need to work in harmony with Immigration and prevent unwanted visitors.

“These foreigners can commit crimes and wreak havoc in the country, thereby making life unbearable. So, there is the need for security agencies to work internally with the members of the community,” she said.
