Bill to Establish 3rd State-owned Varsity Passes Second Reading in Kogi Assembly 

AREWA AGENDA – A Bill to establish third state-owned university in Kabba/Bunu local government area of Kogi state passed second reading at the Kogi House of Assembly on Thursday.

Following a debate and analysis of the Bill, legislators considered it for the third reading and thereafter adopted same.

Umar Yusuf, the Speaker of the House, reiterated that the Bill has put to rest the yearning of Governor Yahaya Bello to create a balance in the state regarding tertiary education.

He added that the University will create jobs, address socio-economic challenges and admit students of Kogi State origin.

“Education is a veritable tool which brings about development which explains the reason for the establishment of the third state university,“ he affirmed.

Leadership Newspaper also reports, the Bill seeking to repeal the Prohibition of Kidnapping and other related Offences Act 2015 and re-enact the Kogi State Prohibition of Kidnapping and other related matters Bill 2023 has also been passed into law.

The said Bill has made way for the state government to initiate new ways to curb kidnapping, which has been a source of concern to the indigenes in the state.

Besides, the screening and confirmation of Mr Abraham Omora as secretary to Ibaji local government council came the same day as part of the House activities.

The House has adjourned and will reconvene on July 8, 2023.
