Abducted Nasarawa Information commissioner regains freedom

AREWA AGENDA – Nasarawa state commissioner for information, Yakubu Lawal has been freed by his abductors.

Ramhan Nansel, the Nasarawa police command spokesperson, confirmed his release to NAN on Friday.

The commissioner was kidnapped on Monday at his residence in Nassarawa-Eggon LGA of the state.

Nansel said the commissioner regained his freedom around 6pm on Friday and was reunited with his family.

He said the victim was also taken to the hospital for medical examination.

The police spokesperson said no suspect has been arrested in connection with the abduction, adding that the police would not relent until the perpetrators are arrested.

Nansel, however, said the police command was not aware whether any ransom was paid before the release of the commissioner.

He said the commissioner was released due to sustained pressure from the combined team of security agencies.

On Saturday, a teacher at Government Science Secondary School, Nassarawa-Eggon was killed by gunmen who invaded the school premises.

In July, the government ordered the closure of primary and secondary schools in the state over security threats.
