SUBEB Clears Air On Alleged ‘Award of Contract to Inactive Contractors, Non-existent of Schools’ in Kano

AREWA AGENDA – The Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), says the alleged report being portrayed in some sections of the media on the award of contracts to inactive companies, non-existent of schools is not true.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Director, Public Relations & Communications of the organization and made available to newsmen in Kano.
Recall that report on the alleged award of contracts to inactive companies and non-existent schools conducted by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), in Kano washed social media platforms last week.
The statement said the investigation wrongly captured the names of some schools in Kano without careful attention to details as follows;
Barnabas Primary School, Mahe Primary School, and AbubakarIla Primary School.
According to the statement, “that was what caused the error to be recorded in the investigation under reference”.
SUBEB confirmed that “the name A. Ila identified was wrongly captured/typed wrongly which did not reflect in the lists of registered public primary schools in Kano”.

Barnabas Primary School in Sumaila LGEA all are existence which was also verified by the ICIR’s reporter”.
Similarly, On the issue of furniture supplied to Kuraye Primary School in Garko LGEA, it was reported that only 60 sets of Furniture were supplied to the school instead of 120.
The statement confirmed that 120 sets of furniture were supplied to Kuraye, not 60 sets. “It is mandatory that each classroom block renovated must be equipped with 60 sets of pupils”
“Therefore, the School received 120 furniture as against 60 reported by the media”.
Consequently, the management confirmed that due process was followed in the award of all the contracts after the “No Objection” certificate was issued by the State Bureau for Public Procurement”.
The organization further distance itself from some of the companies mentioned in the report, saying that the contractors have never executed any project or relate to the management of SUBEB.
The statement further called on the right-thinking members of the general public to distance themselves from the purported report.
