SALCASUN Organizes Community Dialogue on Covid-19, Breast, Cervical Cancer Awareness

AREWA AGENDA – Save a Life Cancer Awareness and Support Network (SALCASUN) has organised a one day community based dialogue on the imminent issues of Covid-19 affected individuals and Breast as well as Cervical Cancer awareness.

The dialogue was supported by a Senegal Non-Governmental Organisation, Trust Africa and conducted in Mambayya House in Kano State on Saturday.

In her opening remark, SALCASUN Project Coordinator, Rahana Kakudi traced back the brief historic background of the organisation which was established by the Cancer Survivor in the year 2016 to create awareness of the importance of early detection and screening of Breast and Cervical Cancer.

Dr Zahradeen Dahiru who is the Medical Advisor of SALCASUN led the participants in the discussion of the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath with the issues of a way forward for the affected individuals in all aspects of life. He confirmed that still there is an existing case of the disease and called upon the participants to observe measures in protecting themselves from contaminating the disease.

On her part, Dr Aisha Sa’idu took the participants on the overview discussion of Breast and Cervical Cancer and how the women are afraid of examining cervical cancer which she termed as a phobia of pain that doesn’t suppose to be found in any woman as per she is in need of her health. She observed that not only women are affected by Breast Cancer also men do contact with the disease and they need to be diagnosed early as many cancer patients do recover if it is detected and cured timely.

The founder of the SALCASUN, Haj. Hauwa Kakudi said “We are here today to discuss imminent issues of persons affected by Covid-19 and also to create awareness on Breast and Cervical Cancer, we intend to move this program forward by inviting participants from rural areas, especially women where we are going to assist them on how to augment their economic income”

She further stated that SALCASUN also wants to create awareness of Breast and Cervical Cancer among the participants and provide free screening.

While commenting on the Cancer Trust Fund, Kakudi confirmed that the establishment in collaboration with Community Health Research Initiative (CHR), 12 individuals have benefited from the funding system.

She lamented that whoever has a patient of either Breast or Cervical Cancer and sounds to be less privileged, the door is open to either contact SALCASUN or CHR for further necessary assistance.

She lastly advised the general public on undergoing screening for the disease, especially women. “Women should know the signs and symptoms of Breast and Cervical Cancer so that it can be detected early, it is sure that early detection saves life” she concluded
