Religious, Traditional Leaders Endorse Safe Space Project in Borno Schools

AREWA AGENDA – The Madaki of Askira Local Government Area who doubles as the Lawan of Bolori, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu said that traditional and religious leaders of Askira are in support of the training for Borno teachers on establishing safe spaces in their various schools across the State.
He made the statement at the opening session of the 5-day training held in Askira Uba at Askira Mega School on Monday.
In his remark, Aliyu commended the effort of Girl Child Concerns and the Borno State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE for redeveloping the capacity of teachers with advanced skills to help adolescent girls with quality education and life skills.
“This training will bring about enormous changes in our communities because our young girls are now going to be empowered with life skills and quality knowledge that will help them in their future. And we are always ready to embrace any positive Initiative that can strengthen their productivity because they are the prime movers of development.”

Speaking, the LGA’s Education Secretary represented by Abdulkarim Abubakar described the training as an “incredible development for Askira,” saying it will equip teachers with polished skills so they could inculcate quality knowledge to students in their various communities.
Similarly, the Vice Principal of Askira Mega School, Mr. Ayuba Mutai urged the participants to listen attentively to the experienced facilitators thereby achieving the aim of their participation.
In her address, the coordinator of the training, Hajiya Ummulkhairi Usman said that the training was organized by Girl Child Concerns, GCC, in collaboration with the Borno State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, to equip guidance and counseling (G&C) teachers with advanced teaching skills to help adolescent girls in making a progressive and informed decision during the adolescence period.
Usman added that they have completed the training for Borno Central and North while that of Southern Borno comprising Askira Uba Biu, Hawul, Kwaya Kusar, Shani, Bayo, Damboa, Gwoza, and Chibok Local Government Areas, is ongoing.
In attendance were critical stakeholders comprising the LGA’s Head of Social Mobilization, Principals, and Deputy and Director Heads of Finance.
