Rahama Sadau and Hausa-Muslim cultural encroachment

AREWA AGENDA – Rahama Sadau, occasionally Nollywood and Kannywood veteran actress is sparking controversy on Western acculturation now and then. Not only that, she’s a xenocentric Northerner who adopts foreign cultures more superior to her indigenous ones.

If we can be remembered vividly, in 2020, Rahama Sadau has been upbraided for dressing too-western which sparked controversy online and offline among Northerners!

Culture is a totality way of life. Undoubtedly! Sadau and her cultural encroachment are not only here and new deal. She trended, trending and will keep on getting more attention from a large number of people in the future, if she didn’t decide (or advised ) to change. So, encroachment here is that she always preferred to dress indecently like the way Priyanka Chopra, Nicki Minaj and others do. Although, she’s Muslim and Northerner, while Chopra and Minaj weren’t.

Her passion and style of copying her idol, Priyanka Chopra; a popular Bollywood actress and producer, and one of the highest-paid actresses in the world.

However, again, her struggles and romanticising their film industry most, advanced her carrier into their popular Bollywood industry where she has been featured in Khuda Haafiz movie. Sadau featured in Khuda Haafiz’s movie of 2020, an Indian-Hindi film, as a guest character on not more than thirty seconds appearance. Nothing more!

In addition, years back, Sadau met with Akon, a popular Senegalese-American singer in 2018 at America. And she also met with Rukhsar Rehman, a veteran Bollywood actress, in 2021. Sadau is thrilled about the duo engagements she had (with Akon in 2018 and Rukhsar Rehman in 2021) and she’s always proud of that.

That’s to say, Sadau happens to be a xenocentric Northerner who preferred Western so-called ‘civilization’ and Indian styles to her indigenous ones on many things. But, her trendy discourse, vogue, and fad, would not last longer as many don’t.

Finally, culture is an identity of everyone. As a Muslim let’s represent your culture and don’t deviate from it woefully. Because, your norms, values and religion are more attractive and respectful everywhere in the world than indecency. But, by the way, I see no reason why people would just keep on judging, berating and condemning her improperly. Two wrongs don’t and never make a right!
