PHIMA Closes Down Another Private Hospital Over Alleged Shortage of Staff
In its continued effort to sanitize activities of private health institutions in the state, the Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Board (PHIMA) has again shut down another private clinic.
It could be recalled that the Agency has recently sealed off Reach clinic for violating its laws and standard operation guidelines.
Speaking yesterday after closing the facility, the DG of the Agency, Prof. Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, said that the Choice Clinic was at loggerhead with another clinic that are sharing same building which we observed they are illegally operating.
He revealed that warranted the Agency cancelled their registrations and directed them to get another location anywhere in the state to reopen the centres upon been assessed and registered by the PHIMA.
the DG assured that, the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf cannot allow two centres to share the same building because of the likelihood that patients going upstairs will get additional hardships due to inconveniences or the entire service delivery will become disused.
“Situated at Rijiyar Zaki, the other centre has closed as we directed, unfortunately the Choice clinic refused to stop operation. When we go there we get a woman hospitalized because she was operated. So, we wait locking up the centre at that time till she was discharged. But we closed their theatre. We gave them two weeks to stop their operations, but they refused to abide by our directives.

“We went there today (yesterday) and we sealed it off. The manner of which we get the centre is terrible and unacceptable. This is because they have no medical doctor; no pharmacist and other staff necessary for health service delivery. They have only two staff, a nurse and a cleaner.
“The rooms are grievously undeserved to even attend to patient talk less of hospitalizing, because they are one sided ventilation rooms with door and window at the same side. In fact, they violate all standards of establishing a health centre”, Prof. Salisu lamented.
The DG emphasized that the government of Alhaji Kabir Yusuf is people oriented that accords the needed attention to the life of the people of the state, further stressing that the administration and PHIMA wanted any indigene of the state to access care in a conducive environment like every other countries in the world.
He maintained that for any health centre to become standard, it has to be well ventilated with adequate lighting system and qualified staff, buttressing that this is how health centres should be for effective and efficient service delivery.
Prof. Salisu asserted that failure to provide these prerequisites components, the healthcare system will inevitably cripple which the present administration will never tolerate.
He then called on private health institutions to know that PHIMA is going round supervising centres with a view to ascertain their preparedness in handling the care of the people of the state and proffer corrections where necessary so that they conform to modern standard operation, frowning that any facility that fails to abide will henceforth be closed down.
