PDP aspirant calls for strengthening internal security

AREWA AGENDA – Alhaji Ibrahim Ajia, the peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency of Kwara State in the 2023 general elections, on Sunday stressed the need for new security architecture in the country to strengthen internal security.

Ajia made the call while receiving an Award of Excellence from the Nigeria Police force for his selfless service and outstanding performance in the force.

The event was organised to mark 20 years anniversary of Cadet Inspector course 36/2002 of Police Academy Wudil Kano held in Abuja.

Ajia who was a retired security chief was honoured on Saturday night for his philanthropic gesture being rendered to the force through his foundation; Mohammed Ajia Ibrahim (MAI) Foundation, even after he left the service.

He said that insecurity had persisted in the country because the nation’s internal security was neglected.

The House of Representatives candidate also said that finances expended so far on the nation’s defence had yielded no positive results.

He therefore urge for strategic funding and more focus on Internal security stakeholders which the Police is the leading agency.

“One of the reasons we are facing serious insecurity is because we have been spending so much on defence without positive results.

“Our major issue is internal security. But we’ve neglected this. That is why we can’t go anywhere. I will make sure that internal security is given priority when I get to the green chamber.

“I promise you that I will make sure the set goal is achieved by the grace of God”, he said.

The PDP aspirant appreciated the police force for the recognition, saying that, “if he wins by the grace of God; he will sponsor a bill on National Security Architecture.”

Ajia however, encouraged men and officers of the Police to continue to be of good character, demonstrate uncommon courage and to always show competence with excellence.

“This Award is a surprise to me and I will not take it for granted. I want to encourage you to always vent for excellence performance.

“I know it is not easy to be a police officer in Nigeria, and this is one of the reasons why some of us had to leave the terrain so that we can join the other side and help you press for those things you need to do your work effectively,” he said.
