2023: NNPP Threatens To Withdraw Peace Accord Signatory, Accuses Police Of Bias

AREWA AGENDA – Irked by what it referred to as ‘police bias and impunity of Kano state government’ the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has threatened to withdraw its signatory of Peace Accord pact it signed ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The opposition party during a press conference on Sunday in Kano state accused the kano Police Command of planning to arrest the party’s chieftains and members in the 44 local government areas of the state.

While speaking during a press conference organized by the party’s stakeholders in its Kano’s secretariat, the party’s senatorial candidate for Kano North Dr. Baffa Bichi said that the party’s members in the state are running thin with patience with the series of persecution they are facing in the hands of APL led state government

Dr. Baffa Bichi who spoke alongside all other NNPP’s senatorial candidates, gubernatorial candidate Abba Gida Gida and house of representatives candidates alleged that the kano commissioner of police CP Mamman Dauda in collaboration with the state government are creating crisis that may impede electoral process and even cause postponement of elections in the Kano.

He said the current political situation in Kano is highly tensed that if relevant stakeholders and authorities don’t wade into on time may cause social unrest, chaos and anarchy.

He added that there are available data to show the list of the party’s members members that have been earmarked to be arrested by the Kano state government, and police command.

He then called Baffa on the Inspector General of Police to with immediate effect redeploy the commissioner of police for peace to reign in Kano,before,during and after the elections.

Dr. Bichi appealed to all the security agencies to monitor the situation in kano with care and curiosity, threatening that NNPP is planning a peaceful protest across all the 44 LGAs in Kano so that the people will know the real situation on the ground.

“We will soon release the names of those the police were planning to arrest, and we have reliable information that that list was being brought together by the local government chairmen, stressing that no amount of intimidation would be made them lose elections “

He also accused the Kano Police Command for refusing to enforce court order that some of the NNPP’s member arrested be released unconditionally.
