Appeal Court Commences Hearing of Sheikh Abduljabbar’s Blasphemy Case

An Appeal Division of the Kano State High Court has commenced hearing on the case of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara sentenced to death by hanging by the Upper Shari’ah Court, Kofar Kudu.

Daily Trust reported that Abduljabbar was found guilty of defaming the personality of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola.

When the case came up on Monday for mention, the counsel for the appellant, Barrister Sadik Yusuf, informed the court of his readiness for the hearing, but the counsel for the Kano State government, Barrister Bashir Saleh, sought an adjournment, saying he was not ready.

The counsel for the appellant then requested a N20 million cost against the respondents for wasting the appellant’s time.

However, the counsel for the respondents objected to the request, stating that they were served with the court processes in March, and not February, as claimed by the appellant’s counsel.

Consequently, the request for cost was withdrawn by the counsel for the appellant.

The case was adjourned to May 9, 2024, for hearing.
