Kogi buries 130 unclaimed corpses

AREWA AGENDA – The Kogi State Government has conducted a mass burial for 130 unclaimed corpses in the state.

It was gathered that the deceased persons were mostly victims of accidents, armed robbers and kidnappers.

Their corpses were said to have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja for months without their relations claiming them.

The corpses were buried at Felele Cemetery in Lokoja on Saturday.

Speaking during the mass burial, the General Manager, Kogi State Sanitation and Waste Management Board, Mrs Arokoyo Elizabeth, said the board was backed by law to ensure the environment is safe for habitation stressing that, the dead bodies have stayed too long in the hospital.

Represented by the acting Secretary of the Board, Sanitarian Olufemi, she said the corpses were deposited at the mortuary by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

“Most of these corpses are victims of accidents, kidnappers and robbers who were brought by policemen and FRSC officials. So, they have to be buried because they have been in the mortuary for a long time without anybody coming for them,” she said.
