Kano govt confirms 5 cases of Neglected Tropical Disease

AREWA AGENDA – Kano state Government has confirmed the spread of 5 Neglected Tropical Diseases cases, out of the 20 that have been reportedly prevalent across the country.

This was made known by the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, during a press conference to mark world Leprosy day, held on Monday.

According to the Commissioner, Kano state has recorded the outbreak of River Blindness in 18 Local Government Areas, Lymphatic Filariasis and Bilharzia in all the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

Other outbreak, according to Dr Tsanyawa include Tranchoma in 10 Local Government Areas and Soil Transmitted Helminthes, in addition to 236 detected leprosy cases across the state.

He called on residents in the state to go to the nearest health facility for early diagnosis and treatment of the above mentioned diseases.
