Gov. Uba Sani Provides Financial Support, Operational Autonomy to Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic — Deputy Rector
By Abubakar Yahaya Ibrahim Amale
The Deputy Rector (Academics) of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Dr. Damina Ayuba, has commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for providing financial support to the institution and granting its management the autonomy to administer its affairs.
Ayuba, who spoke during an interview for a documentary examining the polytechnic’s development between 2020 and 2026, described the governor’s administration as responsive to the institution’s financial and administrative needs.
“He has a listening ear. He has shown concern. The support we need financially, he has given us, and he has given us the freedom to operate as an institution,” he said.
According to him, the polytechnic now receives monthly grants from the Kaduna State Government, alongside financial assistance for its recent accreditation exercise.
He contrasted the current situation with the previous administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, during which, he said, the institution struggled with accumulated debts and inadequate funding for its operations. However, he did not provide financial records to substantiate the comparison.
Ayuba explained that the combined support of the state government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) had contributed significantly to the institution’s infrastructural development and expansion of academic programmes.
He disclosed that the polytechnic had expanded to eight schools and more than 50 departments, while over 15 academic programmes had secured accreditation during an exercise conducted about a year before the interview.

The Deputy Rector also acknowledged the state government’s recruitment of academic and non-academic personnel to address staffing shortages and strengthen the institution’s capacity to deliver quality education.
While admitting that the polytechnic still faced certain challenges, Ayuba maintained that they were manageable and had not significantly hindered its academic and developmental objectives.
On the institution’s future ambitions, he revealed that the management, under the leadership of the Rector, Engr. Kabiru, was pursuing plans to introduce Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree programmes.
He expressed confidence that the institution possessed the requisite human resources and facilities to support the proposed transition and broaden its academic offerings.
Ayuba attributed the polytechnic’s achievements to the collective commitment of the state government, management, staff and students, stressing that collaboration had been central to its progress.
“These successes you are seeing are because there is teamwork,” he said.
Reflecting on his nearly 33 years of service at the institution, having joined in 1993, Ayuba described Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic as his home and expressed satisfaction with the achievements of students who had passed through his tutelage.
He cited the emergence of the institution’s present Governing Council Chairman, whom he had taught, as an example of the impact of the polytechnic’s academic and mentorship efforts.
“The present council chairman of this institution is my student,” he said, expressing the hope that future generations of students would achieve even greater success.
“It is our hope and prayer that our students should grow higher and be better placed than we are.”
