AREWA AGENDA – Critical stakeholders in Borno State have reviewed the manual for the ‘Girls for Girls’ safe space training program, facilitated by Girl Child Concerns, GCC, in collaboration with UNICEF.

The manual review took place in Maiduguri on Tuesday at the Borno State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, RRR.

The Deputy Director of Examination for Education Resource Centre Borno State, Ibrahim Wulfu described the G4G manual as “girls friendly,” saying it would undoubtedly reform targeted beneficiaries in a way that cannot be overemphasized.

He commended Girl Child Concerns, GCC, and UNICEF for their collaborative effort to change the lives of Borno girls for the better.

In her presentation, the Coordinator of GCC Girl’s Academy, Hajiya Hauwa Gwoma said that the manual consists of 15 modules comprising self-identification, climate action, leadership and mentorship, and violence, among other important topics.

She explained that the content of the manual should be reviewed by critical stakeholders to ensure they conform with the religious and cultural inclinations of the targeted places.

The organization’s Program Lead, Ummulkhairi Usman said that the manual was developed by Girl Child Concerns, GCC, to serve as a guide for mentors who would be mentoring girls in 50 selected schools in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, MMC, and Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

Usman said, “Girls, especially from primary 4 up to 5 need an aggressive empowerment with skills and knowledge so that they develop a positive mindset to add value to themselves and the society at large. And GCC and UNICEF are here to support them.”

In attendance were education secretaries of Maiduguri and Jere, development partners, representatives of the Borno State Ministry of Education, religious and traditional leaders, and an association of teachers.
