DMI–TMS London Alliance Charts a Tinubu‑Driven Course Toward 2027

The Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI), led by pioneer Obidient Movement organiser Marcel Ngogbehei, has entered into a formal alliance with the Tinubu Must Stay (TMS) Movement, marking a significant shift in its political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.

The partnership was sealed during a five‑hour meeting in London between Ngogbehei and Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi (KIA), described by DMI as the brain behind TMS. The meeting, held during Abdullahi’s courtesy visit, has now received formal approval from both organisations. DMI’s National Executive Committee ratified the alliance on October 11, 2026, while the TMS Board also endorsed the agreement.

The development signals a new direction for DMI, which previously played a major role in grassroots mobilisation for Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general elections. Ngogbehei, a pioneer organiser of the Obidient Movement and former chairman of the Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO), was a key figure in Labour Party mobilisation during that period.

Why DMI Shifted Strategy

DMI said the alliance followed its September 18 national strategy session, where members authorised the leadership to explore new political and institutional partnerships amid the prolonged crisis within the Labour Party. The organisation said it was concerned that the growing “Tinubu Must Go” campaign lacked detailed policy alternatives.

According to DMI, Nigerians facing high food prices, transport costs, unemployment and insecurity deserve more than arguments over who should occupy Aso Rock. The directorate posed a direct question: “If Tinubu must go, what exactly is the alternative?”

DMI said the opposition has every right to criticise President Tinubu, but must also explain what it would do differently, how its policies would be funded and what ordinary Nigerians could expect to gain. “Government must account for its record. The opposition must account for its alternatives. Nigerians deserve both,” the organisation stated.

It also drew parallels with the political climate ahead of the 2015 elections, arguing that the experience underscored the importance of examining promises of change alongside criticism of an incumbent government’s record.

Inside the London Meeting

During the London meeting, Ngogbehei and Abdullahi discussed the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, diaspora investment, infrastructure development and human‑capital initiatives, including 3MTT, DL4ALL, TVET and NELFUND.

Ngogbehei later issued a statement expressing appreciation for Abdullahi’s engagement, describing the discussions as insightful and constructive. He said Abdullahi’s explanations of the administration’s reform agenda and long‑term development plans were “significant,” adding that he looked forward to strengthening their collaboration.

A New Civic‑Accountability Programme

Beyond the alliance, DMI announced plans for a permanent civic‑accountability programme to examine political promises, proposed solutions, funding plans and their impact on citizens. The organisation said the programme would continue beyond the 2027 elections.

DMI also reaffirmed its grassroots presence, reporting more than 500 state and FCT coordinators and over 11,000 local government coordinators nationwide.

Ngogbehei said the alliance with TMS would open a new chapter in DMI’s engagement with national development, public policy and citizen participation. “Opposition is a democratic right, but credible alternatives matter,” he said.

With both leadership bodies having ratified the agreement, DMI and TMS are expected to begin coordinating their public‑engagement and policy‑related activities ahead of 2027.
