CSACEFA Visits Special Needs Schools in Kano.

AREWA AGENDA – In commemoration of Global Action Week on Education (GAWE), the Civil Society Action for Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) Kano state branch promote the culture of inclusivity in its activities by visiting special needs schools across the state.

CSACEFA North West Co-ordinator Dr Auwal Halilu said, education has been in a crucial status in the country, hence CSACEFA as a body tries to address issues related to Education and looked at inclusive aspects in this year’s activities.

“Schools with special needs students are often marginalised in many policies despite the figures of enrollments by the students that keep arising in our state according to statistical data,” Halilu added

Kano State CSACEFA team identified Amina Albasu School for the Special Needs which was free and built by a veteran primary school teacher to encourage children with disabilities to have access to education in the state.

Furthermore, Brigade Special School which has both sections of Primary and Secondary School with over 300 hundred students has been an arena for less privileged in the communities around Brigade.

In his part, Prof MB Shitu said, the Sustainable Development Goals expected to be achieved by 2030 wake all of us to focus on our area of concern, SDG 4 (Quality Education) and its full context is “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

Shitu further lamented; as the GAWE Theme for this year says, Investing in Just World: Decolonizing Education Financing Now, our interactions with the students and teachers will give us a clear vision of whether SDGs 4 is on the right track or not and how CSACEFA will continue advocating for education financing in each aspect.

“The enthusiasm of the students and teachers speaks a lot of education needs to be a priority to all despite the challenges surrounding, “he said.

Moreover, CSACEFA Kano has crossed checked the blueprint of Kano state’s newly sworn-in Governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf on education and will hold them accountable for what he vowed to do, says Prof Shitu.

On her part, Malama Amina Albasu highlighted that the school need writing materials, additional teachers and other basic learning equipment.

The principal of Brigade Special School Malam Ali Tanko decried that, teachers in the school need Multi Grade Training and additional teachers as many of the students share the same classes. He also requested support for the student’s entrepreneurship scheme which he term as a highly area to look into consideration.
