Clamour for Collaborations, Partnerships top Outcome of Nigeria’s COVID-19 Summit
The recently concluded Nigeria COVID-19 Summit has called for increased collaboration, cooperation and partnerships among key stakeholders in order to revamp disruptions caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria health sector.
In a Communique released Wednesday by the organizing committee, the summit also called on Government to strengthen collaboration between the national and sub-national entities to allow for improved partnership on Primary health care delivery and vaccination uptake in the country.
“Nigeria should galvanise the support of African countries in the collaborative process to end COVID-19 pandemic on the continent and build back stronger public health systems,” the Communique said.
While urging Nigeria to galvanise other nations to call for debt relief so that resources could be channelled towards building the national bio-security and improve access to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Summit recommended that the current level of engagement with the organised private sector in strengthening the health sector should be encouraged and sustained.

The Communique was signed by Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba of Africa Health Budget (AHBN) for Coalition of CSOs, Pharm Frank Mounemeh of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria for the Private Sector and Mr. Boss Mustapha; Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19.
Other signitories are Dr. Betta Edu of HCH Cross River State for Forum of Commissioners of Health in Nigeria and Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe; Chairman Senate Committee on Health for the National Assembly.
The three days Summit which held from December 6th to 8th 2021 was organized in partnership with the Coalition of Development Partners in an effort to redefine the country’s national COVID-19 response and build the health security framework for the country.
Themed: “Pushing through the Last Mile to End the Pandemic and Build Back Better,” the the august assemblage of key actors in the health, economic, security, and policy-making sectors of the country explored strategies aimed at disaster recovery, risk reduction and sustainable development in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recall that the COVID-19 Summit hosted Mr. Anthony Fauci, the Chief Medical Adviser to the U.S. President Joe Biden as well as the Director, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, U.S.
