CITAD , APN, Muryar Adabi Organize Two-Day Workshop for PWDs

AREWA AGENDA – The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) in collaboration with The Muryar Adabi and All Poets Network International has organized a 2-Day Special Creative Writing Workshop on Nonfiction & Engausa Poetry for People with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano state.

CITAD’s Executive Director, Engr. Y.Z Ya’u in his opening remarks explained the workshop is part of the Centre’s commitment to equipping People with Disabilities (PWDs) with the rudiments of writing poetry by blending both English and Hausa language popularly referred to as Engausa.

“The idea behind Engausa poetry and nonfiction writing is that it will aid the PWDs to share new ideas and have an amplifying voice to send their messages to the appropriate quarters for securing a better society” he added.

On his part, the Curator and Founder of All Poets Network International, Khalid Imam explained that at the end of the 2 days training, there will be a contest between the participants and winners will be given prizes as motivation to continue writing.

Adding that entries collected from the participants will be edited and published as an anthology which will be distributed to the public to serve as a signal to recognize the needs and aspirations of the PWDs.

“Also, I have invited them to join writers’ clubs so that they can be within the mainstream creative industry as a strategy to be under a platform to easily amplify their voices” he added.

Presenting his paper titled “Tips on Writing Engausa Poetry” Dr. Ola Ifatimehin, a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, Bayero University, Kano, explained that a poem is written in verses and stanzas with high languages like figures of speech, proverbs, idioms etc are required.

Adding that, in order to write Engausa poetry, a vast knowledge of English and Hausa languages is needed for a close beginning of constructing Engausa poetry for effective message delivery.

The trio Organizers of the training for PWDs unanimously called on the general public especially government, philanthropists and other sister organizations to continue identifying PWDs to give them all the necessary supports they require.

Noting that, there are people with great talents, and if the talents are fully harnessed they can contribute immensely to the development of our Nation.

However, other Scheduled facilitators for the 2 days workshop include; The Chairman Motion Picture Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), Kano State Branch Malam Ado Ahmad Gidan Dabino, Auwalu Yusuf Hamza, Danladi Z. Haruna and Zahradeen Ibrahim Kalla
