After Spending Years in Camp, Buni seeks Global Support to Resettle IDPs

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has revealed that Yobe State needs additional facilities to support state government’s efforts to effectively serve citizens after massive destruction of facilities and infrastructure by insurgency.

He said Yobe is the second affected state with many displaced persons trying to resettle permanently in their host communities within the state and other communities.

The Governor stated this when he received the World Bank Team on introduction to sustainable solutions for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host cities/communities in Yobe State at large.

According to him, “We have also recorded a massive influx of internally displaced persons from other states thereby putting more pressure and overstretching the existing facilities in the host communities. “On this note, l wish to reassure the readiness of our administration to give full support for a rewarding partnership for the SOLID project in the state to succeed”. “I have recently approved the appointment of a competent focal point/coordinator for the SOLID project to facilitate coordinated inception activities, and enhance collaboration with the respective MDAs for data generation and strategic policy direction.

“l wish to reiterate the commitment of the Yobe State Government to our recovery priorities which include restoration of basic Infrastructure and services; economic empowerment of local communities; addressing the root causes of the crisis, enhancing resilience; and most importantly, strengthening internal security. I, therefore, call on all MDAs to ensure full participation in the inception activities for better state ownership and sustainability of the SOLID project.

The MDAs are also directed to identify areas of intervention and ensure harmonisation for greater impact across the state. “Let me state emphatically that I will personally monitor the implementation of the SOLID project to ensure its success in the state,” he said. The Governor thank the World Bank for its support to Yobe State Government and assured them of continuous support and partnership to ensure the success of the project in Yobe State. Earlier speaking, the leader of task team Ford Malkawi said that they were in the state to work on projects through the MCRP, identify challenges of the host communities, and chart ways of improving livelihoods through support to agriculture in order to scale up the success stories.
