Buhari’s Son-in-Law Dumps ADC, Cites Lack of Internal Democracy
Mohammed Turad Sha’aban, a former member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and son-in-law of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has resigned from the party, citing concerns over what he described as a lack of transparency, internal democracy, and sincerity in its affairs.
In a resignation letter addressed to the ADC national leadership, Sha’aban said his decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters, associates, and political allies. According to him, the discussions centered on developments within the party and the experiences of aspirants and stakeholders in recent times.

The former Kaduna governorship aspirant expressed disappointment with what he alleged were shortcomings in the party’s internal processes. He said concerns over transparency, unity among party members, and the management of party affairs had created a disconnect between the expectations of committed members and the realities within the organization.
Sha’aban maintained that he had always conducted his political activities based on principles of honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, and openness. However, he said it had become clear that those values were no longer reflected in the party’s current structure and direction.
He explained that after careful reflection, he decided to leave the ADC in pursuit of a political platform that better aligns with his ideals of accountability, mutual respect, transparency, and democratic participation.
Despite his criticisms, Sha’aban thanked the party for the opportunity to be associated with it and wished its leadership and members success in their future endeavors.
His resignation comes at a time when political realignments and internal debates over party structures continue to shape preparations for future electoral contests across the country.
