Akpabio, Abbas Emerge 10th Leaders of National Assembly

AREWA AGENDA – Senator Godswill Akpabio and Honourable Abbas Tajuddeen has emerged as newly elected leaders of the 10th National Assembly Session in Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Senator Akpabio who emerged as the Senate President defeated his rival, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, in a keenly-contested election on the floor of the Red Chamber, on Tuesday.

Clerk of the National Assembly, NASS, Sani Tambuwal, who presided over the election, announced that Akpabio, the immediate-past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, scored 63 votes.

On the other hand, Yari, got 46 votes, according to Tambuwal.

While from the Green Chamber Abbas from Kaduna State who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and the presidency won the seat of Speaker by simple majority defeating his contenders, Ahmed Idris Wase and Aminu Sani Jaji who are also members of the APC.

Recall that Muktar Betara, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Miriam Onuoha, and Sada Soli: aspirants for the Speakership all stepped down for the APC consensus candidate.
