Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the release of funds for payment of arrears owed local government pensioners across the state.
The ministerial secretary, Borno State Local Government Pensions Board, Aja Bukar Gana on Tuesday in Maiduguri flagged off the payment of six months arrears to pensioners who retired about one year ago.
The beneficiaries cut across local government areas and they were given their cheques on Tuesday at the Borno State Local Government Pensions Board in Maiduguri.

The ministerial secretary noted that the amount approved was eighty one million seven hundred and thirteen thousand nine hundred and twenty-six naira (N81, 713, 926).
He added that henceforth whoever retires from local government system will be automatically migrated from salaries to pension payments, so that there will be no delays.
The pensioners commended Governor Zulum for his empathy towards retired workers at the state and local government levels.
The high point of the event was symbolic presentation of cheques to some pensioners from some local government areas.
