Zamfara Commences Community Policing, to Recruit 500 Special Constabulary
AREWA AGENDA- Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara State on Wednesday inaugurated the Community Policing Advisory Committee assuring that 500 special constabularies would be recruited as part of measures to curb insecurity in the state.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Adamu Abubakar, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10 comprising of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, Muhammad A. Mustapha said the special constabulary would be drawn from each of the political wards of the state.

He said the 12-man committee has the State Commissioner of Police Usman Nagogo as chairman, and the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, as co-chairman to oversee the recruitment process of the personnel.
“Those to be recruited must be tested, and have proven track record of integrity. They will wear uniforms like conventional police but theirs will be different from those of the police and can easily be identified.
“Zamfara State has recorded successes in community policing and it is part of our plan to make people own their policing,” he said.
In his speech, Governor Bello Matawalle said it was through community policing that good rapport and harmonious working relations between the police and the community could be built.
“The move to kick-start community policing is therefore timely, most especially if we consider the security challenges faced by the state and the need for both the police and the community to work together to achieve lasting peace,” he said.
