Kano Youths Promotion Council Sues for Peace Over Emirate Tussle

A civil society organisation, Kano Youth Promotion Council (KYPC), has urged Kano citizens to remain calm and embrace the spirit of unity and brotherhood.

The President of the group, Comrade Idris Ibrahim Unguwar Gini disclosed in a statement he made available to newsmen today in Kano.

This call is coming amidst tension in the State emanating due to the tussle in the Kano Emirate following the dethronment of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and subsequent reinstatement of former Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Things started unfolding when deposed Emir Aminu Bayero returned to Kano at the wee hour of Saturday accompanied by a heavy convoy of security forces.

The Statement Reads in Full Below:

“The Kano Youths Promotion Council (KYPC) is calling on all residents and well-meaning Nigerians to remain calm and avoid any actions that may lead to unrest in the state following the reinstatement of the former Emir, and the deposed of the current one. It is important that we uphold peace and unity in our community to prevent unnecessary riots and disturbances nationwide.

“We urge any aggrieved parties to follow legal procedures in addressing their concerns, rather than resorting to violence or external influences that may harm the Kano Emirate.

“We commend the people of Kano Youths who have resisted being used for the selfish interests of a few individuals and emphasize the importance of living in peace for the betterment of our future. Let us not allow ourselves to be manipulated into destroying our own community.

“We appeal to those backing either side (the reinstated and deposed) to refrain from mocking or despising supporters of the opposing side, as this could provoke reactions and further escalate tensions. Additionally, we caution against politicking the situation, as this could lead to more harm than good.

“As we navigate this challenging time, let us pray for the protection of our state and work together towards a peaceful resolution. “
