World NGO Day: Kano Govt. Sets to Award NGO’s for Developmental Services
… As WPP in collaboration with Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation Empowers 50 Women.
AREWA AGENDA – The Special Adviser to the Governor of Kano State on Non-governmental Organization (NGO), Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi made the disclosure during a press conference, held today at COVID-19 Conference Hall Gidan Murtala in Kano State.
Hajiya Yardada said the activities of this year would be rounded up with a presentation of Awards of excellence to deserving individuals, corporate organizations, Network of CSO’s among others.
She traced back the history of World NGO Day to 27th of every February which began in 2010 with some objective highlights to appreciate, celebrate the success and immense contributions of more than 10 million Organizations worldwide, and to allow many small grass root organizations to gain the recognition they deserve, list out the yearly achievements and the contributions they made, provide knowledge about NGOs, inspire people through their various activities, projects, and lastly to gather more support from donors, funders, business enterprises and philanthropists.
According to the SA, in line with the aspiration of the state government three major programmes were planned to commemorate the day with online activities using new media facilities discussing progress, challenges and opportunities including the way forward.
Other programmes “include Press Conference and most importantly a colloquium where series of educational discussions in form of paper presentations and panel discussions on matters needing the attention of all sundry will be held, to be rounded up with presentation of Awards of excellence to deserving individuals, corporate organizations, Network of CSO’s among others” Hajiya Yardada added.
The SA also commended the commitment and appreciated the generosity of Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) for supporting her Office to organize the 2022 World NGO Day in the state.
She reiterated the commitment of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in continuous partnering with the CSO Community including Donors and the Development Partners which the state government is happily and satisfied with their kind support to compliment it’s plans, programmes and projects.

“The current approach of developing and seeing the smooth implementation of the Kano Mutual Accountability Framework (KanMAF) introduced by FCDO is a typical example of his Excellency’s passion and determination to partner with CSO’s, International Organizations and all other stakeholders aimed at making Kano a safe and secured state where developmental projects and programmes can be introduced and sustained” the SA added.
In continuation to commemorate with the day after the press conference, the Special Adviser graced the graduation and empowerment of 50 women trained with Skills acquisition by Women’s Partner for Progress in support of Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation at Danbare Primary School, Kumbotso Local Government area of Kano State.
She presented the beneficiaries certificate with N5000 grant and tasked them to be self-reliant with what they learned in making the government and the donour foundation proud of them in changing the narration of poverty rate among the women in the state.
The Executive Director Women’s Partner for Progress, Rukayya Adam Shuwa expressed her gratitude to Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation for finding her organization worthy of empowering to sustain the beneficiary’s skills acquisition. She confirmed to the newsmen that, this is the second batch of 50 beneficiaries, while expecting for the last group of beneficiaries making a total number of 150 women who were trained in various skills under her organization.
While assuring the passionate commitment of the foundation, the technical adviser Salisu Musa commended the efforts of organizations’ Executive Director by providing the group of women with a self-reliant skills and vowed to continue supporting their activities.
Every year, on February 27, World NGO Day is observed in several parts of the globe. The day commemorates social advocates and workers who have gone out of their way to make the world a better place.
The world NGO day began in Finland where European Union, United Nation and many other international organizations championed the idea and was endorsed like many other special days.
