Women Remain Champions of Freedom, Equality, Dr. Mario Says
An Obstetrician/Gynecologist and Public Health Physician, Dr. Mairo Mandara has said women all over the remain instrumental and staunch promoters of freedom and equality.
She said Nigeria and Africa in general can taka a leaf from Rwanda, a country with highest percentage of women in parliament in the world who have moved the country progressively.
Dr. Mario stated this while delivering a speach on “Empowering Women in Crisis Zone: Strategies for Resilience and Inclusion” at an event in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja on Saturday.
The event which themed ‘Count Her In: Inspiring Inclusion and Empowerment was organized by Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria, MWFAAN, in commensuration of International Women Month.
“We stand united in our endeavor to have a world that not only recognizes the invaluable contributions of women but actively ensures their inclusion in every facet of societal progression.
“In moments of crisis, society is often stretched to its limits. Ability and strength is within the moment of profound challenge where we raise up to the occasion. That is where the indispensable role of women are brought forth.
“History has shown us time and again that whenever you need a specialty on issues of freedom and equality, and women are involved, you have a strong and more cohesive future which is all inclusive.
“Rwanda today is in the heart of Africa. It started as a testimony of what can be achieved when women are not only counted but needed in the front.

“With the highest percentage of women in parliament in the world, they demonstrates profound impact of woman’s leadership in crisis, policy making and in the societal transformation.”
Strategies for inclusion and women empowerment in crisis zone according to her include, “carving a niche around what you want to do for women in crisis zone, having strong passion for public service, being empathetic, and having a starting point because even a billion is a factor of one plus one are the ways to go”.
Dr. Mario concluded by saying all involved in empowering women in crisis zone must be resilient, tough, learned, ready to take risks, and posses heart for social impact in order to carry along women in such zones.
Also during a panelist session moderated by Chisome Nwoka, discussants Ngozi John Nwoya, Dr. Aisha Bello, Rakeeba Bello and Aisha Yusuf shared their experience in entrepreneurship including ways to overcome challenges.
Being creative in a competitive world, huge investment in people to build trust for business to run in your absence, collaboration, setting achievable goals, delegation ability, balancing work and life, and having a workable routine are ways they identified for navigating the turbulent atmosphere of enteprenuership.
The high point of the event included presentation of awards to outstanding women doing well in their respective fields. The awardees include; Funke Adeoye, Trailblazer award, Hellen Beyioku Alasa, inclusive leadership award, Rabeeha Belloz visionary entrepreneurship award.
Others are Samira Modibbo, community catalyst award, Nice Abuzi, young rising leader award, Fatima Madaki, career achievement award, and Farida Yahaya, outstanding leadership award.
